Once you've joined and set up your profile, submit a babysitting request with the date, start and end times, the hourly rate you'd like to pay, the ages of your children, your general area, and any notes about the job. Our team shares your request with the village, and interested sitters message you — usually within a few hours. You can then view their pictures and profiles and choose the sitter that fits your family best.

We personally interview, coach, and train every sitter, and sitters over 18 complete a criminal background check before they're approved. Families are screened too, so trust runs both ways. And every request is handled by a real person who knows the village — not an algorithm.

Launch pricing is $18 a month — the first month includes a one-time $10 registration fee plus $15 per household adult for background checks (you plus any additional adults you add). If you sign up for a year ($216), your registration fee is waived. There's no contract or long-term commitment, and you can cancel anytime.

You pay your sitter directly. We don't charge any fees or percentages on what you pay your sitter.

Sitters over 18 are required to complete a criminal background check before being approved. We also personally interview and train every sitter. We encourage families to ask sitters for references or schedule a quick video call before a first job, and you're welcome to run your own background or driving-record check for extra peace of mind.

Yes — many of our sitters also take dog-sitting and plant-watering requests while you're out of town.

Unfortunately, in order to keep costs low for our current members, we're unable to pause memberships. If you cancel and decide to rejoin later, you'll need to pay the registration fee again.

You can cancel anytime from your Subscription & Billing page, or by emailing us. Cancellation is effective immediately and you'll no longer have access to the site — so if you'd like to use the rest of your paid month or year, we suggest waiting until just before your renewal date to cancel. Once a payment has processed we're unable to issue a refund, so please note your signup date and cancel before your next payment if needed.

You keep 100% of the payment you receive from the family. There is absolutely no charge or fee for sitters to use Village Care. Rates are set by the families and listed in each job request.

Once you've been interviewed, trained, and approved, our team sends you new job requests that match your availability. Reply to the ones you're interested in — if the family chooses you, the job is confirmed on your dashboard. You're paid directly by the family based on hours worked at the agreed-upon hourly rate; Village Care has no involvement in the payment process.

If you experience or become aware of any behavior that feels unsafe, inappropriate, offensive, or like harassment while caring for a family, please bring it to our attention immediately. We encourage you to report any incident, we'll handle every report promptly, and your report stays a private communication between you and Village Care. For everyone's safety, all adults in the household of every member family must complete and pass a criminal background check before joining.
